The Vanguard of the Federation of Orion was tasked with exploration and recontact along the rimward frontier. During the Rim Survey and the abortive Deep Survey of the sixty-third century, the Vanguard established dozens of remote outposts, like this one on a moon of a large gas giant in Sector 825.
